Derby County came very close to reaching the Premier League last season. Steve McLaren did a decent job with the resources at its disposal. Yet, he ended up leaving the club last season.
The club went in for an inexperienced candidate in the hope of getting fresh ideas into the team. Former Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement, who has worked with Carlo Ancelotti at previous clubs like Chelsea and Paris St Germain, was brought into the club. The experience of having worked with one of the best managers the game was a huge plus in the CV of Clement.
However, the Englishman is badly struggling after Derby have made a regular starter this season. The club are still searching for their first Championship win of the season. The start only went from bad to worse following the latest 2-1 defeat against Leeds United. Despite this poor start, Clement has said that he has seen only positives from his players and is confident that results will improve some are rather than later. Clement may not have a lot of time to get results since Derby are very keen on getting promotion. Since teams often dropped points in the Championship, there is still chance for Derby to aspire for promotion.
“I don’t think we’re that far away. I don’t think we need to make drastic changes; we have a good group.Everyone can see some of our football in spells has been very exciting and we are creating lots of chances. I am sure the first win is not far away and when that happens I am sure we will go a positive run.We don’t look vulnerable at the back. It is just about fine margins so we have to hone on in the details now,” said the Derby manager.
